  Internal Door Problems

Internal doors are available in many different sizes, Most new homes are now required to have a wheelchair accessible down stairs bathroom, the door leading to this would also need to be 34” wide, When it comes to double glass doors, an suite doors, and smaller doors, Pending the choice of door you choose it can be more difficult to get all matching doors due to certain doors been only available in certain heights and width,

Door Protection

Timber is a Natural Product and is subject to Humidity and Temperature Check door prior to commencing any work
Door must be stored dry and flat and not fitted into freshly plastered buildings - exposure to damp or moist conditions will cause swelling of the components and consequent distortion of the door.
Doors should be conditioned to the prevailing environment before hanging and should not be exposed to abnormal heat, extreme dryness, high humidity or sudden changes of temperature.
It is essential that all doors be sealed or knotted and primed on both faces, all four edges and cut outs such as letterboxes and locks immediately after delivery.
End grain must be completely protected as this is where moisture can cause swelling, splitting and warping.
When hung it must be finished immediately with either:
Good oil based paint (not water based) and to include at least 1 coat primer, 1 undercoat and 2 coats of gloss or
Good quality joinery treatment which must include at least 1 base coat, 1 intermediate coat and 2 finishing coats

Reducing a door in any way will nullify the structural guarantee of the door. Mortice locks / ironmongery must not be fitted at a rail joint and should only be fitted onto the solid stile - the mortice lock cavity should be kept to a minimum.

Should a door require aleration , cutting or planing, it must be immediately re-varnished otherwise it would absorb moisture which lead to problems such as warping and splitting.

Regular maintenance must be carried out to protect timber from deterioration

Our liability under our guarantee is limited to the replacement / repair of the door and no liability is accepted for any consequential costs.

AS WE CANNOT KNOW ALL SITUATIONS IN WHICH THE DOOR IS STORED / INSTALLED WE CANNOT GIVE ANY GUARANTEE AGAINST SHRINKAGE / WARPING / SPLITTING.
